Bright energy ideas in action

Powerofplay

In Shell, we believe the answers to tomorrow’s energy challenges lie in the power of people’s ingenuity, and that together we can #makethefuture today.

Using digital and traditional media, the Shell brand advertising campaign - #makethefuture, seeks to promote advocacy and partnership for Bright Energy Ideas as part of Shell’s thought leadership on the Future of Energy in a rapidly growing world.

In 2015, Global music star Akon joined Shell to shine light on a bright energy idea put into action by unveiling Africa’s first human and solar powered football pitch at the Federal College of Education, Akoka, Lagos, Nigeria. The pitch, developed by the Shell #makethefuture programme, is made with more than 90 underground tiles that capture kinetic energy from the footsteps of players which, alongside solar panels, help power the floodlights overhead. This demonstrates our belief that a mix of innovative ideas can change the way we power communities around the world.

Shell’s #makethefuture global energy drive continued in 2016 with the launch of the ‘Best Day of My Life’ music video featuring six award-winning international musicians including Nigerian music artiste, Yemi Alade. The artistes joined forces with entrepreneurs and Shell to highlight a worldwide need for collaboration in support of more and cleaner energy.

Shell continues to improve the lives and safety of those in the community through innovation in cleaner energy. With the support of Shell’s LiveWIRE development programme, innovation and technology are helping fuel a better energy future in Nigeria. Niger Delta entrepreneurs Ngozi Atalor and Henry Chikogu are using innovative technology and renewable energy to bring water, light and power to their communities.
