SPDC tests five gas wells in Gbaran-Ubie project

The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd (SPDC) is testing the potentials of five gas wells as it progresses implementation of the Gbaran-Ubie project in Bayelsa State. The exercise which began two weeks ago involves brief simulated production to determine the potentials of the wells and flaring of released gas in isolated locations. On completion of the tests, the wells will be hooked up to the Gbaran-Ubie central processing facility which will process the gas for domestic and export markets. One of the recipients of the gas is the Bayelsa State gas turbine at Imiringi.
SPDC shuts down NCTL to remove oil theft points

The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd (SPDC) shut down the Nembe Creek Trunkline (NCTL) on Monday (15th April) to remove crude oil theft connections and investigate suspected oil theft leaks. Production of some 150,000 barrels of oil per day has been deferred due to the shutdown. As a result, SPDC has declared force majeure on Bonny Light export.
SPDC Joint Venture conducts asset inventory in Ogoniland

The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) Ltd Joint Venture has commenced an inventory of its assets in Ogoniland in line with the recommendations of the UNEP report. As part of the UNEP report, SPDC JV was required to conduct a comprehensive review of its assets in Ogoniland and develop a decommissioning plan.
SPDC declares force majeure on Bonny Light

SPDC declared force majeure on Bonny Light offtake programme effective 16:00hrs (Nigerian time) today, 5th March following the shutdown of Nembe Creek Trunkline (NCTL) after a leak was observed on Sunday (3rd March.) The cause will be determined by a Joint Investigation Visit, which will be scheduled once the leak point has been excavated.
Dutch court dismisses FoE claims on oil spills

The District Court of The Hague (The Netherlands) today (30th January) ruled that the four oil spills at Oruma, Goi and Ikot Ada Udo between 2004 and 2007 which have been the subject of a litigation, were caused by sabotage. Furthermore, the court ruled that Royal Dutch Shell plc is not liable and dismissed all claims of Friends of the Earth (Milieudefensie).
