The Shell Graduate Programme

You'll join a two to three-year industry-leading coaching and development programme in the Technical area of the Shell Graduate Programme. You'll become part of a global Process Engineering community and, as part of the tailored training on offer, you could work alongside some of the processing industry’s game changers.

There is real responsibility on offer from day one and you could be part of Shell’s most ground-breaking and critical projects, where problem solvers and innovators will thrive. Our working environment and community is supportive: at Shell, we want to help nurture you and to really push the boundaries of what’s possible.

Process Engineering

Process Engineering is vital to Shell’s activities across the business, and helps with the development and production of raw hydrocarbons and the subsequent processing into commercial products. With a curious mind you could be part of designing and optimising chemical processes, and the operation of equipment and facilities; or analysing and interpreting laboratory and plant data. Our process engineers also provide technical support to oil and gas production facilities, refineries and chemical plants (both onshore and offshore); ensure the technical integrity of plants and new projects; advise on process safety issues, and commission new installations.

Roles and responsibilities

As part of Shell’s world-class engineering team, the responsibilities you will encounter are widespread, and include:

  • Designing and optimising the operation of equipment and facilities
  • Advising on process safety issues
  • Commissioning new installations
  • Analysing laboratory and plant data
  • Liaising with the operators in the control room on a daily basis

Process engineers impact on major sectors of the business, including:

  • Exploration and Production
  • Gas
  • Refining
  • Chemicals

Whatever role you embark upon, you’ll be helping to meet the future global energy challenge.

Training and development opportunities

The aim of the Programme is to provide you with the first-rate coaching and mentoring needed to become an accomplished Shell professional. There will be a mixture of on-the-job, classroom and online learning, as well as regular progress checks to ensure you reach your potential.

Future assignments

The world’s energy challenges are becoming more complex by the day, and we are seeking future leaders who can innovate and take on those challenges. Continuing and progressing your career with Shell, we offer a three-year ‘Shell Advanced Technical Programme’ following your initial assignment within the Shell Graduate Programme. With a clear structure and defined goals, this further learning will give you the skills you need to take on a more senior role within Shell’s technical environment.
