Pipeline leak forces shutdown of Utorogu Gas Plant
Aug 25, 2011
The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd (SPDC) Joint Venture last night (August 24) shut down Utorogu Gas Plant following a leak on the Utorogu – UPS trunkline in Western Niger Delta.
The line evacuates condensate from the gas plant. As condensate is produced along with gas, the plant cannot continue to operate now that the line is out of service.
The leak was confirmed yesterday (August 24) and a joint investigation visit is planned to determine the cause.
SPDC regrets the shortfall in gas supply for electricity generation and is working to repair the line and resume gas production as soon as possible.
