Gas and Power
The Afam integrated oil and gas project has helped boost the supply of electricity and gas in Nigeria.
Shell’s pioneering & leading role: Since 1962, initiated gas production and distribution in Nigeria for industrial use and power. SPDC and its JV partners were sole suppliers of domestic gas until 1998, and has remained one of the leading suppliers since then. SPDC is majority gas supplier to Nigeria LNG, in which Shell is key partner.
SPDC JV built Afam VI, the biggest power plant by a private provider. Afam VI with installed capacity of 650MW of power is the second largest contributor to the Nigerian national grid contributing between 14-20% of Nigeria’s power generation for the national grid.
