Sabbatical and Research Attachment Programme

The Sabbatical and Research Attachment programmes which Shell initiated in the early 1980s, is another major aspect of its education support and knowledge sharing/transfer strategy.

Open to academic staff of Nigerian universities who have attained the position of Senior Lecturer and above, the programme offers them an opportunity to conduct studies on E&P challenges and to work on assignments that add value to Company business.

Through this programme, university lecturers gain useful experience and exposure to new technologies that they would take back to the classroom, thus enabling the transfer of new concepts in the industry as well as the latest technologies to students. The company offers approximately 20 sabbatical appointments every year. The current annual financial outlay is N270 million.
