MD, SPDC, Mutiu Sunmonu gave the Keynote address at the opening ceremony, in which he shared his thoughts on “Future Energy Dynamics: Sustainability, Research and Technology,” and also led discussions on funding and investment in the oil and gas industry.
Chukwuma Uguru received SPE Regional recognition award for advances in "Reservoir Characterisation and Modelling” and Saka Matemilola was honoured for Outstanding Contributions, while Uchenna Orekyeh led a SNEPCo team to the top prize in Technical Presentation with a paper titled, “Key Elements of Successful Well and Reservoir Management of the Bonga Field, Deepwater Nigeria.” Also, the third position in the Technical Presentation category went to SPDC’s Chukwuanu Afulukwe, who teamed up with A. Igbokoyi of SPE for the paper, “Encouraging Experience in the Use of Downhole Permanent Pressure Gauge for Well and Reservoir Management-Abstract.”
The Best Exhibitor award was a worthy acknowledgement of the Shell Nigeria stand, which made its debut earlier this year. The Minister for Petroleum, Dr. Rilwanu Lukman, led dignitaries around the stand to see the sub-sea models, posters, video-documentaries, publications, university liaison and health products that earned Shell’s booth the most traffic at the exhibition.
Sunmonu noted that though “the current global economic downturn may dampen demand in the short-term, it won’t halt the demand from billions of people around the globe to improve their living conditions. “Access to clean, modern energy is the catalyst for improving people’s lives and climbing out of poverty,” he said.
