Gourami Business Challenge

The country is fictional, the challenges are real, and if you'd like to explore your potential, the Gourami Business Challenge could be for you. First, we'll ask you to complete an application form and send us your CV, and if we think you have the knowledge and skills we need, you'll be invited for an interview. We'll assess you against Capacity, Achievement, Relationship skills and Technical skills (CART) and if you're successful, we'll offer you the opportunity to take part in the challenge.

  • What's it all about?

A week long residential event, the Gourami Business Challenge takes place around the world and offers an ideal opportunity for you to get a real insight into our international organisation.

The Gourami Business Challenge is representative of Shell's culture, business principles, diversity, operations and true to the risks and challenges faced in the global energy industry.

You'll be able to hone your technical and commercial skills as you develop and present a five-year business plan for Shell in Gourami.  In teams, you'll make strategic decisions and recommendations about refining operations, the development of offshore oil and gas discoveries, the supply and marketing of products to customers, as well as look at manpower and costs.

You'll be coached by a multi-disciplinary team of Shell professionals, so you'll get plenty of exposure to our people and culture, as well as time to network and socialise.

Throughout your time on the Gourami Business Challenge, we'll be assessing your performance and development as well as providing detailed, structured feedback to help you improve your skills and knowledge further. And at the end of the challenge, if you've demonstrated all the qualities we're looking for, you could receive an offer of a full-time position upon graduation.

  • Can I participate?

The Gourami Business Challenge is designed for students who will be in their final year of study when Gourami takes place. So, if you are currently studying in your final year and scheduled to graduate, receive your degree (Bachelor, Master or Advanced) and be available to start work with Shell within 12 months following the Gourami Business Challenge, you are invited to apply.

Applicants who have already graduated or who have work experience are not eligible for the Gourami Business Challenge but are encouraged to apply for employment via the Shell Recruitment Day.

The only exception is Australia and New Zealand - here you'll need to be in your penultimate year of study to apply, and you'll also need to undertake the challenge whilst still in your penultimate year.
