The Shell LiveWIRE Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award

The Shell LiveWIRE Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award of £10,000 recognises and celebrates the achievements of the UK's finest young entrepreneurs.

Michael Korn, a 30 year old entrepreneur from East Finchley won the coveted title of Shell LiveWIRE Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2011 and £10,000 for his invention, KwickScreen, which is already being used in the NHS to bring an end to the misery of mixed sex wards.

On winning the award Michael said: “It’s a great honour to win the Shell LiveWIRE Young Entrepreneur of the Year title.  I started my company when I realised there was a need to ensure that dignity and privacy of people in hospital needed to be better protected. From that simple insight I have been driven to build my business over the last 4 years in the UK.  I will use the £10,000 that I have won to target the international healthcare markets.

The Shell Livewire Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award is now closed for entries.

Quotes from Grand Ideas Award winners:

We've had great press coverage - 4 articles in local papers and an article in the Architect's Journal.  This has made us much better known locally and we have secured a great contract as a result of our articles.  Everybody knows what we're doing now which has generated huge interest in our way of thinking and working as a company

Ben Scrimgeour, Design Workshop

It's really been about the confidence it's given me, and when talking to other organisations being able to say that we've already won this award.

Tasty Development

Winning the award truly kick-started my business. In all, since winning this award I have raised and won over £30k in funding from organisations such as NESTA and Scottish Enterprise and I have no doubt that the Shell Livewire Award helped in securing this for me.

Daniel Sutherland Designs

It gave me confidence and helped me make the big leap from a person with an idea to a person with a real business and a product.
