The University of Benin was founded in 1970 as an Institute of Technology and accorded the status of a full-fledged university by the National Universities Commission in 1971. The university offers courses at postgraduate, undergraduate, diploma and certificate levels.

Jennifer Orji Adaku
A year 4 student of Production Engineering. She thinks serving others is definitely a mission. Jennifer has served fellow students in various capacities, including: VP, National Association of Production and Industrial Engineering students. She has a flair for creativity and design, and is currently trying out fashion design. It is no surprise that in the team, she is helping with the interior design of the car.
Abdulmalik Taj-Liad Adetunji
A year 5 student of the department of Production Engineering. He is the assistant team manager and he looks after the suspension and brake system of the car. He enjoys collaborative working. Aside Shell Eco-marathon, Abdumalik is currently working with a group of engineering students from the University of Benin and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Ghana on a water distribution/control system that uses renewable energy as its power source to deliver treated water.
Justice is a year 4 student of Electrical Electronics Engineering. He looks after the electrical wiring of the car. After completing secondary school he single-handedly designed a battery charger that charges lead-acid battery. This exposure and experience contributed to his being selected for Shell Eco- marathon project. When he is not working on batteries and cameras, Justice loves to indulge in athletics.
Emmanuel Ajari Erhijiuwo
Emmanuel is a year 4 student of the department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering. He is the reserve driver and looks after the control system of the car. He has always had a flair for innovation and creativity. He has designed several devices including, daylight controlled light switch, electronic siren, logic-based automatic power change over, motion detectors, among other items. His electrical skill is an asset to the team. Emmanuel is involved in the design and installation of all the electrical appliances and gadget in the car.
A year 5 student of Production Engineering. As the team manager, he has to make sure everyone is on schedule. He is also responsible for the transmission system and wheel alignment of the car. Adekola says: “I believe in creativity and I have never doubted human wisdom.” His passion for fabrication and design led him to study engineering.
Daniel Ejiro Okwoka
A year 5 student of Production Engineering student. He is the driver for the vehicle and also responsible for the car balancing and aerodynamics. In his first year, he was adjudged the best student in class, and was awarded the Total/ELF Scholarship (JV National Merit Award 2010/11). One of Daniel’s first courses was Engineering Laboratory Assessment. This helped build his confidence and subsequently he acquired team working skills.
Elohosa is a year 4 student of the department of Mechanical Engineering. He is involved in the engine fine-tuning and weight control of the car. He acquired practical experience in automobile repairs at an automobile company in Benin. He also has a certificate in Corel Draw design suite. He is a top associate with a campus-based organisation which specialises in registering students for various scholarships. Iyamu loves music; he plays the drum and keyboard.
Akii Ibhadode - Team Supervisor
A professor of Manufacturing Engineering. In 2010, Ibhadode won the Nigeria Prize for Science with his work titled ‘Development of a New Method for Precision Die Design.’ A die is a metal mould used for mass producing metal products, such as crankshafts, connecting rods and other steering linkages. One of his research papers titled “Effects of billet location in completely closed cavity die forging” arising from his PhD work won the Edwin Walker Prize for 1988 of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, United Kingdom.
