Onyejekweis new SNEPCo MD

A new Managing Director has been appointed for Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo). He is Chike Onyejekwe, who until now was Onshore & Shelf Exploration Manager. A geologist by background, Onyejekwe brings to his new assignment a varied experience in Exploration and Production activities spanning some 30 years.

In his latest assignment, he will lead a company which made Nigeria’s first ever deepwater discovery. SNEPCo has since 2005 also successfully operated the Bonga field, Nigeria’s first major deepwater production by deploying cutting-edge technology and world-class safety and operating standards.

Onyejekwe said: “I’m pleased to be in SNEPCo and to be part of the development offshore. In particular, I’ll be looking to contribute to the culture of excellence in operations that SNEPCo has developed, and I intend work closely with staff, contractors and other stakeholders. I’m aware there are security challenges in the Niger Delta, but I’m very hopeful that the situation will be resolved peacefully.”

Onyejekwe joined The Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in 1979 at the start of a career that has seen him serve within and outside Nigeria in well site operations, subsurface geological mapping, petroleum engineering and exploration disciplines.

After a stint in Oman between 1991 and 1995, he returned to Nigeria and later assumed the role of Corporate Chief Production Geologist/Seismologist in SPDC in 1997.

In mid 1998, he was broadened to a higher technical role by being appointed one of the three Asset Development Managers in the East, a role where he was responsible for planning, managing and executing the Asset’s Exploration and Development activities.

In 1999 following a re-organisation, Chike was appointed Chief Geologist for SPDC, a position where he was responsible not only for developing/managing the Geologists, but also geological standards, processes and guidelines required for Field studies/reviews

In  2003, Chike was appointed the Business Development and Exploration Manager and also the Geosciences Skills Manager for SPDC. He had the technical responsibility for managing and executing SPDC’s and JV Partners Exploration and Appraisal activities in addition to all the Geoscientists development and resourcing requirements. He became Onshore & Shelf Exploration Manager in 2004.

Chike is an active member of various associations, notably the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (FNAPE,) Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS) and Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE)

Chike is married to Maureen and they are blessed with children.
